Be careful not to step over the foul line – As you approach the bowling lane you’ll notice a line which runs across the top of the lane and separates it from the run-up area. This line is called the ‘foul line’. You have to be careful not to step over this line when you’re bowling, as doing so will automatically disqualify your throw.
Even more importantly, if you step over the foul line and you could find yourself lying flat on your back very quickly! Bowling alleys are polished to a high gloss with a special oil that keeps the balls rolling nicely down them. They are extremely slippy.
